Tis the season of the office or family Christmas party, which means more eating and since we’re from Wisconsin…definitely more drinking. Here is a guide to help you navigate the most wonderful (and chaotic) season of the year. Eat, drink and still be healthy!
Water, Water, Water!
Make sure you are having at least eight 8 oz. glasses of H20 during the day. Dehydration is often confused with hunger so you may find yourself reaching for the food rather than the water when you arrive. Alcohol makes you dehydrated, so you’re more likely to reach for the heavier and unhealthy foods as well.
Be Plate Smart
Make sure that half is vegetables or salad and the other is as protein-based as possible. Start with the veggies/salad first, as they are higher in fiber and tend to make you feel fuller faster. Once you’ve made your food selections, move away so you’re not too tempted to go back for more.
Pace Yourself on the Booze
Pace yourself to avoid the calorie hit from booze and the dreaded hangover as well. Check out low calorie drink swaps. Alternate each alcoholic drink with a glass of water.
Bring a Dish
By bringing a healthy dish to pass you know you will have something at the party you can eat. Make sure it is centered around fruits or vegetables. This will help keep the calories down and the nutrient content up. This is super helpful if you have food sensitivities or allergies.
Count Your Blessings
Always remember to count your blessings before you count your calories this holiday season. There is so much to be grateful for and I am so thankful for each and everyone of you in this Packerland Fam.
Have a Merry Christmas and a Blessed Holiday Season!
